Come visit us, as Diane did, and this is how you can spend your week...

Second emergency room visit: they drilled a hole in Katie's fingernail to drain the "massive subungual hematoma" -- the tremendous amount of thick, black blood that was collecting under her fingernail, causing tremendous pain.

Freddie: the splint she wore for the first 10 days.

Susie: the splint she wears now, after visiting the orthopaedist.

Leftie: for comparison.

Yuck... and OW! I'm so sorry for your little finger! That looks super painful. Feel better soon! And hi, Freddie.

    So following Shawn's weak-trash comment. . . I have a story to tell you.
Syd slammed her finger in the door last year. She actually broke it too. Broke a little bit of bone off the tip. Anyway she also got a big "massive subungual hematoma" but never complained about it hurting so we didn't do anything about it. Then one day she and Brynn were wrestling on the living room floor and I went in to shut it down and found a big blob of thick, disgusting, black blood on the floor. Of course I starting freaking out "Who is bleeding?!" It was Syd. Her finger had popped. GROSS. So we cleaned her up and she said her finger felt much better after that. Now I understand why. No more pressure. Her fingernail fell off about 4 days later. It was actually hanging by a thread of skin so we pulled it off. I kind of get a sick thrill out of gross things like that but I was actually gagging when I cleaned under her nail.
So what I'm saying is good job at being proactive. You will be a good mom because now you know what a massive subungual hematoma is and what to do about it! I hope your finger feels better now!

Looks cool. You got to use one of those cool ae words. I got rid of my sliding door, just because I thought that this sort of thing would happen.

We went out to eat the other day and the glass door into the restaurant was really heavy and the wind was blowing hard. I was telling everyone to be careful not to get their finger slammed after I saw your picture. I hope you've had your last ER visit for that finger. Well, I hope it's your last ER visit for anything, but most especially that's enough trauma for one finger.
