Wow. I have been really bad at this whole blog thing. Here's what we've been up to lately.
During the months of June and July we undertook some projects in our house. We painted our kitchen cabinets (thanks to the help from our parents) kitchen walls, and refrigerator (sounds ghetto but it looks fabulous!) See for yourself--the before pictures are first.
The wall color in these pictures isn't very accurate as it actually is a little more gray than this, but it's the best I could do. The color was called Perfect Greige. I think that translates to Bart and I being the most boring people ever. The perfect combination of beige and gray. Ah well. We LOVE it!
Miles turned 1 on July 1st. In honor of my trip to the hospital one year ago, we spent the night before his birthday in the emergency room since he had a serious fever. Turns out he had hand, foot, and mouth disease. Not a very fun way to spend your first birthday, which is why he's not his usual smiley self in some of the pictures. For two days he was pretty miserable and would only sleep if we were holding him (which I secretly quite enjoyed since he isn't really into cuddling).
Once he was feeling a little better we had him open some presents. My parents were here to celebrate with us, so we spread the party out over a few days since Miles wasn't feeling well, so the photos are in no particular order. He got to ride his first train at Stone Mountain park, go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant (he loves beans), build forts with dad, go to the park, play in a giant sandbox, and of course, eat some cake.
A few days after his birthday, we went to the doctor for his one year appointment. He was feeling his usual self and happy as a lark. You can see below that he had no idea he was about to get four shots. (I hate that part!)
We also celebrated Fourth of July by eating burgers and staying in the air conditioning!
In the middle of July Miles and I traveled to Utah since Bart had to go to Maine for two weeks for work. We got to spend time with family and were completely spoiled.
Miles got to go to the zoo for the first time while we were there. The Hogle Zoo was fabulous and we had so much fun seeing everything with Ashley, Elli, Grandma, and Nana. The two cousins just loved all the animals and actually paid more attention than we thought they would. Miles learned to drink from a straw while we were there. It was so hot and we had bought some Icees to cool us down. Well, turns out he just needed some sugary motivation to learn that skill.
We also got to visit Granny while we were in town, which was such a treat.
I know there are more pictures of when Julie was here in June... Once I find them I will post them!

Your kitchen turned out FABULOUS! I love it!! It was a nice kitchen before, but the new paint makes it feel very updated. Love. I'm especially impressed with the fridge-painting! Did you just use appliance paint? Tell me more about this.
Also, I totally "stole" a couple of your photos because they were just so danged cute. I love the one of you and Miles (hm... not sure how to tell you which one... it looks like you're on a ride or something? white/grey metal seating with forest in the background?). Anyway, you both look great. And you look quite similar. I guess you're related. :) Also, the one of Miles in the doctor chair is sooo cute. Poor guy. If only he knew what was in store. lol.
It was so great to see you two recently. We sure love you guys. Bart, we miss you! Can't wait til Christmas (well... except for that whole too-long-winter thing). :) Love ya. Great post.
Wow! That kitchen looks fabulous!
Also, I sure do love that baby and his mamma!
Happy Birthday Miles, I think you have your momma's smile
Your kitchen looks AWESOME!!! The before pictures look so much likes ours did, it is uncanny. Having been through the painting job, I can say I am super proud of you. What a stinkin lot of work! It looks so great. We also painted our house the perfect combo of beige and grey. It just means you have good taste! :)
I'm with Bec. My favorite pic is the one of you and Miles together with the white background. So, so cute! He looks so much like you Katie!
I cannot believe he liked the hose, silly boy. We were at a family reunion recently. Claire spent too much time on the merry-go-round and puked all over herself. I went after her with a hose (much like Miles got) but she screamed bloody murder.
I was great to see you two. Can't wait to love on that baby again. :)
Miles is getting so big! I liked the picture of him with the party blower. Cute! And another favorite is Miles swimming with Grandpa/catching bubbles.
We have twin fridges now! We got a black fridge a few months ago that replaced our older white one. We call it "Black Beauty" It's our only appliance that has a name. Your black beauty looks great in your new kitchen. I changed my dark brown cupboards to white a few years ago, but I did it the cheater way and painted them while they were still hanging and only did the outsides, not the insides. It still took me a week!
