Hooray! Having worked for the Ophthalmology* department at the Presbyterian Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health System for one week, the review is good. Katie finds the work to be more varied and less boring. She finds the coworkers to be more pleasant and fewer. We're both happy to discover that she gets many of perks as I do, such as free access to sporting events, the Arboretum, Museums, and Penn facilities. A pretty sweet bonus is that in one week, Katie has received two (2) presents -- a set of coffee table books and A DVD ABOUT GENE THERAPY! And coming August 1, she gets her own office -- with a window! So yeah, you could say its pretty awesome.

NOTE: The above are metaphorical representations only, and not actual photos of Katie.

*No, I didn't spell it wrong. You just say it wrong.

P.S. Katie posted earlier today. Make sure you read her post, too!

Riding the bus in Philadelphia isn't anything like riding the bus in elementary school. When I was in sixth grade, I distinctly remember standing in line--needing to be the third or fourth person to ensure getting a backseat. Then, once on the bus, times were good. There were fans that sprayed water because Louisiana is hot and school is year-round. Your friends were on the bus. And coming home on the bus signified that the school day was over and you could go home and watch Saved by the Bell and make home-made nachos.

Well, times change. We have been riding the bus lately and let me tell you, Philadelphia bus drivers are NOT nice. The buses are NOT on time. And there are no spray fans. (Granted, there is air conditioning, but that's not the point.) The point is... I missed the bus and will now be late to church.

1) Earlier this week at approximately 12:15, I walked over to the office microwave to heat up some leftover pasta. One of my coworkers (I use that term liberally because she rarely does actual work) was heating something for lunch. I decided to sit by the window and wait my turn. As the rumbles in my stomach got a little louder, I looked at the time on the microwave and noticed that it had over 9 minutes left. You might wonder what gets cooked in an office microwave--or any microwave--for that long. This woman was cooking a homemade, raw hamburger patty. I kid you not. She had the bun, the patty, and the cheese to melt on top. When she pulled the cooked mess out of the microwave, it was gray.

2) This is the glory that is two cubicles away from me. For a little fun, see if you can find the aforementioned hamburger.

Starting on July 7th, I will be working as an Administrative Coordinator for the Ophthalmology Department with the University of Pennsylvania. I'm pretty stoked not to have to work with any more of my lame coworkers. Plus, I'm hoping to get some free contacts... If not, at least I'll learn how to spell ophthalmology.
